Two one-time setups

Log without opening the app.

Both guides take about a minute. Apple doesn't allow apps to configure these automatically — only you can, and you only do it once.

Guide 01

Back Tap quick-log

Double-tap the back of your iPhone, type "10 coffee", done — the expense is logged and categorised without opening the app.

Add the Back Tap Shortcut

Add the shortcut Tap the button above — it opens in the Shortcuts app. Tap Add Shortcut there.
Open Settings → Accessibility Then tap Touch.
Tap Back Tap → Double Tap This is what your iPhone does when you tap its back.
Pick "Log Expense" Scroll to the Shortcuts section and select Log Expense.

That's it. Double-tap the back of your phone anywhere, type what you spent, and TapXpense sorts the rest — amount, title, category.

Guide 02

Apple Wallet auto-log

Tap to pay with Apple Pay and the expense logs itself — no app, no typing.

Your banking stays yours. TapXpense never sees or stores your card number, bank login, balances, or any banking details. The automation passes exactly two things per tap: the amount and the merchant name.

The full automation, end to end.

Open Shortcuts → Automation Open Apple's Shortcuts app and tap the Automation tab at the bottom.
Create a Personal Automation Tap + in the top-right corner, then Create Personal Automation.
Pick the Wallet trigger Scroll down and tap Wallet (called Transaction on some iOS versions). Choose the card(s) you tap with. Turn Run Immediately ON and Notify When Run OFF, then tap Next.
Add the TapXpense action Tap Add Action, search for Log Tapped Payment, and pick it under TapXpense.
Connect the amount & merchant The important bit: tap the Amount field → Shortcut Input → Amount. Then the Merchant field → Shortcut Input → Merchant. Both should show as blue tokens, not typed text.
Save — you're done Tap Done. From now on every Apple Pay tap quietly logs itself to TapXpense.

Good to know: only in-person taps auto-log. Online and subscription charges (like Netflix) can't — Apple doesn't share their amount with automations. Track those with TapXpense's Subscriptions feature instead. If the automation ever asks you to type the amount, redo step 5 — the fields aren't wired to Shortcut Input.
